Places you can play table tennis in Cardiff & Beyond
If you're just looking for a game, want some practice, or just to meet some other players, community clubs are what you're looking for. At the moment these are in short supply in the Cardiff area but hopefully more will be opening in the future. Details are as follows;
South Wales Conference League.
This is a team competition played by those of all abilities on Sunday evenings in the Upper Hall of the Welsh Institute of Sport. Teams consist of two or more players in divisions appropriate to their ability. Contact Neil Wright neil_wright5@msn.com for more details.
Table tennis in Cardiff for the over 50 year olds
Every Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9.30am until noon the over 50s play table tennis in the Welsh Institute of Sport. There are ample tables. There is no joining fee. We just pay at reception.
The standard of play varies from “elderly beginners” to Division One players. Visitors are assured of a warm welcome.
North Gwent Table Tennis Centre (NGTT)
First established in the 1992/3 season, exclusive use of the whole sports hall at Abertillery's Community Education Centre. In the playing season: open two evenings per week: 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Out of season: usually open only on one evening per week.
Tournament conditions. Ten roll-away blue tables with matching court surrounds. In addition, one or two green tables may also be in use on extra-busy evenings. New members & visitors always welcome.
Subscriptions: 1.60 per evening.

UWIC - University of Wales Institute Cardiff
The UWIC club currently meets on Monday evenings in the UWIC gym. (Cyncoed campus) The gym supports 4 tables and membership is on a turn up and play basis. The charges are 2.40 and currently the club runs from 8pm to 10pm, payment is made to the receptionist on the way in.
The club is more suited to existing or returning players of league standard, if you're a returning player this is an ideal environment in which to gauge your level.
Directions: From the A48 / newport road junction
- Take the north exit off the roundabout (Cyncoed)
- Follow road until you hit a "T" juntion (Penylan hill)
- Turn right (going up the hill)
- Follow the road up and round to the left (approx 1.5 miles)
- Take the right hand filter signed "UWIC" / "UWIC Campus"
- Take the first right after the entry barriers and follow the road
- The road bears round to the left and left again
- When you seen the "Space Age" building in front of you with an "AstroTurf" pitch to your right, the Gym is on your left - enter through the sliding doors and pay at the desk.
