Super-clubs

The TTAW currently has proposals on the table to develop a super-club in each of Wales' five regions.

A corresponding network of outstanding table tennis clubs is already developing in England, and they are an excellent showcase  for the almost unlimited potential of large scale table tennis in Sports Centre conditions.

In England, however, they are not called super-clubs.

One such English club is London Progress, which is based at the 3M Southall Sports Centre.  In partnership with a network of Local Schools and City Academies (The Progress Network) it is said to be attracting hundreds of local youngsters.

At the top end it is now running 5 Men's British League teams as well as teams in the Women's and Junior Leagues. In all it has 20 teams operating in regional and national competitions.

Super-clubs clearly have immense potential, and such a development in the Cardiff Region could well re-juvenate the Cardiff League quite quickly.

If the TTAW, through its status as the national body for our sport, is able to get Sports Council support for such a project in the Cardiff Region, it would be doing the Cardiff League a great service.

But since this would be a Regional Facility maybe it needs someone to set up some sort of a Regional (rather than just Cardiff) Action Group to look into the idea.
